Vale Jessie Murray MBE | Thanksgiving Service: 8 Oct 2011

9 Sep

On 29 August 2011, Mrs Jessie Murray, M.B.E., passed away at her home in Perth, WA. Mrs Murray was 93.

Mrs Murray was a legendary Cheltenham Girls’ High School Music teacher who was responsible for introducing the whole school singing of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus in 1961 to annual Presentation Day celebrations. Mrs Murray is also remembered for founding the Linnet Choir of Sydney. She is sadly missed and fondly remembered.

Mrs Murray’s funeral was held in Perth on 7 September 2011.

The Linnet Old Girls are organising (together with the church) a Thanksgiving Service to be held at the Epping Presbyterian Church, 9 Bridge Street, Epping on Saturday 8 October 2011 at 2pm, followed by afternoon tea in the church hall.

The Linnets also plan to follow afternoon tea with a couple of hours of singing favourite choir songs, so please dust off your music and bring it along too! All welcome.

If you have a special photograph of Mrs Murray that you would like to have included in a PowerPoint presentation, please forward the photograph/s to June Davey, together with the date the photo was taken and the occasion. All photos will be considered for inclusion in the PowerPoint.

Please also forward any inquiries about the Thanksgiving Service to June Davey.
